Voting underway in BFUJ election

Voting for the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) election is underway across the country.

The voting that started at 10 centres, will continue till 5pm on Thursday without any break.

In Dhaka, it started at Jatiya Press Club from 9am. The voting is also being held in Chittagong, Rajshahi and Sylhet simultaneously.

A total of 3,980 voters across the country will cast their votes to elect president, secretary general and treasurer.

Three candidates are contesting for the post of president and three for the post of secretary general. Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Abu Jafar Surya and Omar Farooq are contesting for the post of president.

Abdul Majid, Deep Azad and Layekuzzaman are contesting for the post of secretary general.

Besides, Khairuzzaman Kamal, Nazrul Kabir and Mohammad Abu Saeed are contesting for the post of treasurer. Sheikh Mamunur Rashid is contesting for the post of Joint Secretary General.

Apart from the three posts of President, Secretary General and Treasurer, five candidates are contesting from Dhaka for the post of Vice President, four for the post of Joint Secretary General, six for the post of Office Secretary and 10 for the post of Executive Council Member.
