Over Tk nine lakh stolen from NRBC Bank in Bogura

Over Tk nine  lakh has been stolen from a sub-branch of NRBC Bank in Sadar upazila in Bogura.

The incident happened at the Shakharia Pallimangal Hat area of the upazila on Friday night, said Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saihan Oliullah.

Rashedul Islam, manager of the NRBC Bank’s Pallimangal Hat sub-branch, said, “As the banking hours ended on Thursday, I left more than Tk nine lakh in the chest. Later, I heard all the money was stolen.”

OC Saihan Oliullah said the landlord informed police by calling 999 after seeing the bank open in the morning. It is believed that the miscreants entered through the roof, broke the bank’s volt and stole the money.

“There are no security personnel in this sub-branch. Besides, there are not enough CCTV cameras. Efforts are being made to collect footage from the cameras and catch the culprits,” he said. Police did not arrest anyone involved in the incident or recover the money till Saturday.

Arrest with $100,000: Court asks police to quiz two US citizens at jail gate

A Dhaka court has directed police to question two Bangladeshi-origin US citizens at jail gate after they were arrested with US$100,000, equivalent to Tk 11 crore.

They are Md Rezaul Karim Khan and Md Jasim Uddin Khan. They were produced before the court by police on Saturday (Januarey 27). Police pleaded to the court to grant 10 days’ remand for questioning the accused for “fair investigation” into the case. On the other hand, their lawyer pleaded to the court to release his clients on bail.

After the hearing of both sides, Dhaka’s metropolitan magistrate Saddam Hossain ordered police to question the accused at the jail gate for two days, instead of placing them on remand and granting them bail.
The Dhaka Airport sources said both Md Rezaul Karim Khan and Md Jasim Uddin Khan were scheduled to board a Qatar Airways flight (QR 641) on Friday to go to the United States.

The customs department at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport detected that the duo was carrying US$100,000 without declaration.

Later, a case was filed against them under the Anti Money Laundering Act, police
