Prof Shamsuzzaman dies

Bangla Academy chairman Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan has died of coronavirus infection at a hospital in the capital.

He breathed his last at 2:00pm on Wednesday at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

He was placed on life support on Sunday after his condition deteriorated. Earlier, he was hospitalised with coronavirus infection.

Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan has been appointed as the chairman of Bangla Academy for the next three years on June 29, 2020.

Shamsuzzaman Khan was born on December 29, 1940 at Charigram in Manikganj district. He completed his masters from Dhaka University in 1963.

He started his career as a teacher. He worked as professor at Haraganga College in Munshiganj, Jagannath College in Dhaka, Mymensingh Agricultural University and National University.

He has penned and edited more than 100 books till date. His works include Folklore Charcha, Bangabandhur Rashtrachinta O Bartaman Bangladesh, Bangabandhur Sangey Alap O Anyanya Prasanga, Muktabuddhi, Dharmanirapekshata O Samakal, Bangarashtrer Galpasamagra, Kishore Rachanasamagra, Bangladesher Utsab and others.

He received Bangla Academy Award in 2001, Ekushey Padak in 2009 and Independence Award in 2017.
