BGMEA for selling TCB goods to RMG workers

On Tuesday Garment manufacturers demanded of the government for selling the goods by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to the garment workers at lower prices for their relief.

Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), today
met the TCB chairman and urged him to arrange 40 special truck sales of goods in garment industry dense areas.

Hassan also sent a letter to the TCB for selling the  goods to the workers at an affordable price, he said at
a press conference while speaking on different issues of the garment industry.

However, the BGMEA President did not tell in details about the sales of goods to the workers.

He also said they are receiving higher prices from the sales of garment items from the international
retailers and brands as they are adjusting the prices of raw materials with the per unit garment items.

But, the ongoing Russia and Ukraine war has been affecting the export of goods to Russia and Ukraine in
the time of business recovery from the severe fallouts of the COVID-19,” Hassan said.

The BGMEA has been lobbying with the influential bodies in Europe and USA, the two main export destinations of the country, so that the export grows in near future.

For instance, the BGMEA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American Apparel and
Footwear Association for expanding the apparel markets in the American markets.
