Govt able to stabilize prices of commodities facing all hurdles: Information Minister
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the government has been able to stabilize the prices of commodities facing all hurdles and the standard of life of people remains normal.
“The situations which were created across the globe due to the Russian-Ukraine war, we couldn’t let the same situation happen in the country (Bangladesh) under the prudent leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The people who criticized unnecessarily, they do not look at the global situation,” he said.
The minister stated these while addressing an iftar mahfil at a hotel in the city organized by Ranguniya Samity-Dhaka.
Dr. Hasan said the whole world becomes unstable due to the Russia-Ukraine war and commodities prices are also volatile everywhere. Prices of essentials have increased by 23 percent in the United Kingdom while the price of edible oil has increased 70 percent in all Europe, and the price of energy has increased 50 percent, he added.
He said prices of gas and fuel of vehicles have increased 40 percent in the USA. For these, the prices of all food products have also increased across the globe, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
But, he said, the costs of transport and power have not increased in the country due to the Russia-Ukraine war. And it was possible only for the far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.
Samity vice presidents Abu Taher and Nurul Haque, among others, addressed the iftar mahfil with its president Obaidul Kader in the chair. Samity general secretary Engineer Jahangir Alam conducted the function.
