World should learn from Bangladesh how to tackle Covid-19: CDC

Bangladesh has done very well in dealing with coronavirus infection and other countries of the world can learn from it.

The assessment came up in a research report produced by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

However, the agency has warned that there is no chance of complacency even though the death and identification rates in Coronavirus have dropped significantly in Bangladesh. In addition, the CDC has recommended a significant increase in the number of health workers and increased efficiency to strengthen Bangladesh’s public health activities in the long run.

CDC Bangladesh Country Director Dr. Nili Kyodos Daniels upheld the report during a press briefing held at the American Center in capital’s Gulshan on Wednesday.

“Vaccination rate in Bangladesh is higher than in the United States – this is very good news. Bangladesh has done very well in dealing with the pandemic. Other countries of the world can learn from this, ” Dr. Nili Kyodos Daniels said.

The country director of CDC Bangladesh said, “Bangladesh so far reported a total of 29,127 Covid-19 fatalities while detection rate of Coronavirus 0.47 percent till cases on Wednesday.”

Dr. Nili added, “Earlier this year, when the new variant, Omicron, started spreading, hospital admissions and mortality rates in Bangladesh were still quite low.”

Referring to the United States Government as a proud partner in Bangladesh’s success, the CDC Country Director said, “The US government gave Bangladesh some 61 million doses of coronavirus vaccine. Besides, the CDC assisted Bangladesh in monitoring the situation, laboratory systems, capacity building, and emergency management and response.”

The CDC official suggested that the improvements made in the field of public health during the pandemic should be harnessed, adding that “Bangladesh’s capacity needs to be strengthened to prevent the spread of coronavirus and other infectious diseases.

The CDC official warned of drug-resistant germs in Bangladesh and other parts of the world, calling it the development of a slow-moving pandemic.

He advised Bangladesh to effectively control the misuse of antibiotics and said, “US CDC will increase its activities in Bangladesh.”
