AL has no headache over BNP’s movement: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the AL has no headache about the movement of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“…in the past, they waged a movement after Eid or exams. But now they (BNP) have waged a movement after the flood. Some 13 years have passed. When will they wage a movement? …we have no headache over their movement,” he told a cash distribution programme.

AL relief and social welfare subcommittee arranged the function to distribute cheques among the destitute and flood-hit people ahead of holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The Minister said, the language BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam and BNP leaders use on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was not decent one.

“This is a language of streets (indecent). They talk in indecent language. We talk in the language of politics. This is the difference between them (BNP) and us,” he said.

Standing by people during any crisis period is the history of Awami League, the AL general secretary said, adding that the AL always rushes to disaster-hit areas first to help the affected people.

He said taking a risk Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to flood-hit amid heavy rains and storm. “We do not want to say them anything. We will reply them (BNP) through our work,” he added.

Criticising BNP that its leaders provide lip service and hold press conference without standing beside the country’s people, Quader said even if the BNP leaders go to disaster-hit areas to distribute relief, they become busier with press briefing and photo session than relief distribution.

He said the government has allocated 9,000 tonnes of rice, 1.5 lakh packets of dried food and taka 11 crore in cash for the flood victims.

In addition, Taka one crore was allocated from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and AL units of Sylhet and Sunamganj gave enough financial assistance too, he said.

Asking all to remain alter amid the rising trend of coronavirus, the road transport minister said the virus infection is on the rise and it may increase further after Eid-ul-Azha so all should remain alert to this end.

Chaired by AL presidium member Matia Chowdhury, the meeting was attended, among others, by AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, AL organising secretary Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury Nader and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi.
