UN’s resident coordinator calls on Speaker

United Nations (UN) resident coordinator Gwyn Lewis today paid a courtesy call on the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter’s JS office here.

During the meeting, they discussed several issues such as Bangladesh government’s endeavor in handling COVID-19, the stable economic situation of post-COVID Bangladesh, women’s empowerment and socio-economic development and gender budget, a press release said.

Appreciating the unprecedented development of Bangladesh, Lewis said that the present government played due role in dealing with the recent flood situation in Bangladesh.

With the joint efforts of all, it has been possible to reach the remote areas with relief, she added.

Country Representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Kristine Blokhus and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
