Two Rohingya leaders hacked dead in Cox’s Bazar

Two Rohingya leaders have been hacked to death in a refugee camp at Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar, police said.

The deceased are Md Anwar, 32, and Md Yunus, 35, both residents of block-F at Palongkhali union’s No.13 Thaingkhali camp.

But the killings took place at block-18/A of Balukhali No. 19 camp on Saturday evening.

Anwar was the main leader or chief majhi and Yunus was his deputy.

The two were speaking with volunteers near a shop when a group of 15-20 perpetrators attacked them. The attackers indiscriminately hacked them, leaving the duo critically injured.

Yunus was declared brought dead after being rushed to a local hospital, while Anwar died undergoing treatment there.

Additional forces have been deployd in the area, Armed Police Battalion said, adding that the bodies were sent to a morgue for autopsy.
