BNP workers don’t respond party’s call for election boycotting: Hasan Mahmud
Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday said now none, even leaders and workers, responds to BNP’s call for election boycotting.
“Many BNP leaders are taking part in election. Many of them formed Trinomool BNP after stepping down from the party. Trinomool BNP’s candidate is contesting the election from our constituency as well,” he told a view-exchange at Rangunia municipality in Chattogram.
Current and former chairmen, members of union parishads and mayors and councilors of municipality under Chattogram-7 constituency joined the meeting.
Noting that a congenial atmosphere for free and fair election has been prevailing, Hasan Mahmud, also information and broadcasting minister, said now talks of elections are everywhere including at villages, neighborhoods while a massive number of BNP leaders have also get engaged with the polls and they are contesting the election.
He said, as none responds to BNP’s call for election boycotting, they have now resorted to arson to intimidate people. They killed four innocent sleeping human beings by setting fire to a moving train in Dhaka.
Describing the tragic incident, he said a mother holding her offspring in her chest amidst death as her baby was burnt to death in the arson. Any political party cannot make such barbarism what BNP did. So, this BNP has no scope to go to the people as it has become enemy of the people by carrying out arson terrorism, Hasan Mahmud added.
He further said, today, the people are united against the elements and they are heavily condemning the barbaric act. The government is committed to eliminating arsonists.
AL’s election conducting committee for Chattogram-7 constituency chairman and valiant freedom fighter Swajan Kumar Talukder chaired the meeting and committee’s member secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder conducted it.
Chattogram North District AL leaders Abul Kashem Chishti, Md Shahjahan Sikdar and Muhammad Ali Shah, former chairmen Nur Kutubul Alam and Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury Milton, UP chairmen Ahmed Syed Talukder, Danu Mia and Abu Zafar also spoke at the event.
