Allegation against diplomat Kazi Anarkoly to be probed: Shahriar

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has said the government is set to investigate the allegation against Kazi Anarkoly, Deputy Chief of Mission of Bangladesh in Jakarta.

Terming the diplomat’s alleged involvement in possessing drug “embarrassing and unfortunate,” the state minister further said: “Action will be taken against her as per the law if the allegation is found to be true after the investigation.”

Bangladesh has recalled Kazi Anarkali, Deputy Chief of Mission of its embassy in Jakarta, at the request of the Indonesian government after marijuana was allegedly seized at her home.

According to foreign ministry sources, Indonesian drug control authorities raided Anarkali’s residence on June 5 this year. The diplomat used to share an apartment with a Nigerian national.

She was brought back to Dhaka at the request of the Indonesian government.

Bangladesh has asked Indonesia for a detailed explanation on the matter.
