Sheikh Russel Day observed in different districts

Sheikh Russel Day was observed on Wednesday across the country in a proper manner to coincide with the 60th birthday of the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  The theme of the day was:  ‘Sheikh Russel Diptimoy, Nirvik Nirmal Durjoy (Luminous Sheikh Russell, courageous, pellucid and indomitable)’.

Rangamati: In the morning, Rangamati district administration initiated the program by placing wreaths on Sheikh Russel’s portrait. On behalf of Rangamati district administration, Rangamati MP Dipankar Talukdar, Rangamati deputy commissioner Md Mosharraf Hossain Khan, Rangamati additional superintendent of police Maruf Ahmed, freedom fighters, Rangamati municipal mayor Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, among others were present at the event.

Sunamganj: A wreath was placed on the portrait of Sheikh Russel in Sunamganj’s Shantiganj upazila parishad at 9:30 am. A discussion was held at upazila parishad conference room on the occasion of the day presided over by the UNO Sukanta Saha and conducted by secondary academic Supervisor Nure Alam Siddiqui where Shantiganj Upazila Parishad vice chairman Lecturer Nur Hossain, woman vice chairman Dulon Rani Talukdar, AC (Land) Sakina Akter, Upazila Awami League president Sitanshu Shekhar Dhar Situ spoke, among others.

Naogaon: Non-governmental organization Resource Integration Center RIC paid tribute to the portrait of Sheikh Russel in Naogaon’s Namatpur upazila area office. RIC Niamatpur Area manager moniruzzaman, branch manager Habibur Rahman, assistant branch manager Masud Alam, credit officer Yasin Ali were present at that time.

On the other hand, at 11 am at the initiative of the upazila administration, the day was started by placing a wreath on the portrait of Sheikh Russel at the temporary stage of the newly built complex building of the upazila parishad. A colorful procession was taken out after placing wreaths. The rally started from the main gate of the upazila parishad and circled the main roads.

At the end of the rally, a discussion was organized under the chairmanship of UNO Imtiaz Morshed. Niamatpur Upazila Parishad chairman Farid Ahmed was present as the chief guest in the meeting.

Gopalganj: Kotalipara upazila administration in Gopalganj district celebrated the day through various programs. The day’s program included wreath-laying on Sheikh Russel’s portrait, rally and discussion. At the end of the rally, Kotalipara UNO Ferdous Wahid presided over the discussion at the upazila parishad auditorium.

At that time, Kotalipara Upazila chairman Shri Bimal Krishna Biswas, vice chairman Abdul Khalek Howladar, assistant commissioner (Land) Saiful Islam, Upazila Awami League general secretary Ayanal Hossain Sheikh, secondary education officer Siddiqui Nur Alam were present, among others.

Gazipur: The day was celebrated through various programs organized by Kaliganj upazila administration in Gazipur district. In the morning, Kaliganj upazila administration, police members and media workers of upazila press club laid wreaths on Sheikh Russel’s portrait on the upazila parishad premises. Also, leaders of various local political and social organizations paid tribute. Later, a rally paraded several roads of the upazila.

Later, a discussion, cultural program and award distribution were held at the upazila parishad conference room on the occasion of the day presided over by UNO Azizur Rahman where the upazila parishad chairman Moazzem Hossain Palash was present as the chief guest conducted by assistant education officer Israt Jahan.

Panchagarh: Wreaths were placed on Sheikh Russel’s portrait in the morning organized by Panchagarh’s Debiganj upazila administration. Later, a colourful procession was brought out from the upazila parishad with the participation of students from various educational institutions. Later, a discussion and drawing competition among students were held in upazila parishad hall. Abdul Malek Chishti, Chairman of Debiganj Upazila Parishad, was the chief guest in the program with of Debiganj UNO Shariful Alam in the chair

Pirojpur: In the morning, under the initiative of Pirojpur’s Bhandaria upazila administration, a rally was taken from the upazila parishad square which paraded the roads of the town and wreaths were placed at Sheikh Russel’s portrait. Later, a discussion was held in Engineer Khandkar Mosharof Hossain auditorium where upazila vice chairman Mosiur Rahman Mridha, officer-in-charge Asikuzzaman, spoke.
