Attempt on to turn religious people into fanatics: Hanif

Awami League Joint-General Secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif, MP, today said attempt is on to turn country’s religious people into fanatics and that is why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is emphasizing on spreading education to thwart that evil effort. Report BSS

“We have a thousand-year old culture. It is a matter of sorrow that we are losing our folk culture. A section of the society is becoming fanatic. Bangladesh Awami League is working to eliminate these fanatics, militant and fundamentalist forces from the country,” he said.

Hanif said these while addressing as chief discussant a roundtable titled “Samprodayikota o Jongibad Protirodhe Amader Koronio” organized by Gourob ’71, a pro-liberation platform, at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital.

Presided over by Gourob ’71 president SM Monirul Islam Moni, the discussion was conducted by its general secretary FM Shahin.

Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, former judge of the Appellate Division, in his speech said we are hearing the Cumilla temple incident was staged following order from Tarique Zia from London.

“He is the son of killer Ziaur Rahman. They want to turn Bangladesh into Pakistan. They talk about religion, but do the opposite. They are the defeated forces of 1971 and never wanted an independent Bangladesh,” he said.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Samad in his speech said Bangabandhu worked relentlessly to protect both Muslim and Hindu communities during 1964 communal violence and he even became victim of the attack.

“Bangabandhu worked throughout his life to build a non-communal country. He took many people of minority communities to his home at Dhanmandi 32. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib used to cook food for them,” he further said.

Former Inspector General of Police Shahidul Huq, Bangladesh Hindu-Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad vice-president Kazal Debnath, Dr Nuzhat Chowdhury, daughter of martyred intellectual Abdul Alim Chaudhury, Awami League leaders Aminul Islam Amin, Salauddin Chowdhury and Bangladesh Awami Jubo Mohila League vice-president Adv Koheli Quddus Mukti, addressed the discussion, among others.
