Khaleda Zia returns home from hospital after 27 days

BNP chairperson   Khaleda Zia on Sunday returned home from Evercare Hospital in the capital after 27 days of treatment for various health complications.

Earlier, her late son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman Sithi went to the hospital to bring Khaleda back home.

The BNP chief reached her Gulshan residence, Firoza, around 5:35pm.

Party senior leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, received Khaleda at her home as she got down from the vehicle holding one hand of Sithi.

Khaleda’s personal doctor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain later briefed the reporters about her current condition.

He said members of the medical board, made up of local and foreign doctors, once again advised Khaleda to seek treatment abroad.

Physicians have suggested that her next treatment should be at a multidisciplinary advanced development centre, he said.

Dr Hossain said Khaleda was suffering from various diseases. “She has not been treated properly for four years. While she was in prison, no proper treatment was arranged.”

On October 12, Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital for the second time with fever and some other health problems.

On October 25, she underwent a surgery and biopsy test at the hospital as she had a small lump in one part of her body.
