Post offices provide 200 digital services

Post offices across the country are providing 200 digital services as the government modernized the traditional organization in last one decade.

“Postal department has become important parts of citizen’s communications as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina transformed the sector through visionary policy,” Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said in a statement marking the World Postal Day on Friday.

World Post Day is celebrated on October 9 every year to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) which was started in 1874 in Switzerland.

“The country entered into global community of post telecommunication under leadership of Father of the Nation Bangbabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladesh got membership of Universal Postal Union and International Telecommunication Union in 1973,” Minister Mustafa Jabbar added.

He also mentioned that government is developing 8500 post offices as digital hubs to support Digital Bangladesh vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,

Countries across the world participate in celebrations of the day to highlight the importance of postal service. Minister also released commemorative stamp and first-day cover marking the international day.
