We will phase out unauthorized online portals : Information minister

We will phase out unauthorized online portals, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud.

“We are trying to send the list to BTRC today or tomorrow morning,” he said.

If they get lists from us, they will stop them.

The information minister was responding to a question from reporters at the unveiling ceremony of a book on the life of the Prime Minister at the meeting room of the Information Ministry on Thursday (September 30) afternoon.

Asked why several online outlets, including the state-run news agency BSS, had been shut down for some time a few days ago, Mahmoud said it was a misunderstanding. BTRC shut down many online portals. Registered and even government web portals were shut down. This is due to a misunderstanding. That has been resolved very quickly. We will send a list from us that all online portals need to be closed.

He said shutting down the online portal is an ongoing process. Approval of online portals is an ongoing process and online portals that do not actually act in an abominable or honest manner, spread rumors or spread false news will continue to be shut down.

Hasan Mahmud said, “We will also inform the court, BTRC also will inform that the closure of the online portal is an ongoing process.” If everything is closed in a hurry, I don’t think it would be reasonable to close everything at once. I will inform the court about that. We will phase out the unauthorized ones.
