President Mohammed Shahabuddin to join 43rd ASEAN summit in Jakarta on September 5-7

President Mohammed Shahabuddin will visit Indonesia to join the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held in Jakarta on September 5-7.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday said Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited President of Bangladesh to join the summit. Momen said Bangladesh, Indonesia are expected to sign two memorandums of understanding (MoU) on energy and health during the visit.

President Shahabuddin is scheduled to leave Dhaka for Jakarta on September 4.  Foreign Minister Momen will accompany the president during the visit. Bangladesh President will take part the opening and closing session of the summit apart from his other engagements.

The theme of the Summit: “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.” The foreign minister said that this will be the President’s first visit to Indonesia and hoped that the visit will be successful.

A number of bilateral meetings between ASEAN leaders will also be held on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit. Indonesian President Joko Widodo will chair 12 meetings during the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
