3 AL MPs warned over ‘electoral code breach’

In a stern action, the Election Commission (EC) has warned three ruling Awami League lawmakers of taking action if they continue to violate electoral code of conduct.

The EC sent three separate letters to MP Abdul Hyee of Jhenaidah-1, Tahzeeb Alam Siddique of Jhenaidah-2 and Iqbal Hossain of Shariatpur-1, according a statement issued by the commission on Thursday.

They were found to be violating the code of conduct for different local government elections slated for June 15.

“According to electoral code of conduct lawmakers are among the important persons who enjoy government facilities and are not allowed to join any polls campaign,” the EC said commonly in the letters.

“MPs are taking part in electioneering … Which is clear violation of electoral code of conduct,” said one of the letters.
