Whether countrymen prefer plotters alike BNP, it’s a question: Information Minister

Trashing BNP leaders’ comments, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said it is a question whether the people of the country will choose conspirators alike BNP in the coming days.

“Optimism is only hope in ocean and it is applicable for BNP. They are living with the optimism. It is good to have
hope and no one will be in power forever. But, it is question whether the countrymen want the changes for
BNP,” the minister said while talking to journalists at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

Earlier, Dr.Hasan exchanged views with the newly-elected office bearers of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).

BFUJ President Omar Faruque, Secretary General Dip Azad, Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Vice President
Madhusudan Mondal, joint secretary general Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, office secretary Sebika Rani, EC
members Ummul Wara Sweety, Dr Utpal Sarker, Sheikh Nazmul Haque Saikat and Nure Jannat Akter Shima took part in the meeting.

Dr.Hasan said it is question whether the countrymen will choose those who carried out arson attacks on common
people, made hostage people for political interest and did politics of killing and conspiracy.

Replying to another query over journalist Rozina Islam, the minister extended congratulations to her (Rozina) for
getting the Press Free Award, saying an organisation of the Netherlands awarded her and her husband received
the award from a Pakistani journalist.

Besides, the journalist is now under trial and it is not appropriate to tell anything regarding this, he added.

He said BFUJ is the country’s biggest organization of journalists and the recent polls of the union is an example
of upholding democracy.

“For this, I would like to extend thanks to the BFUJ, the newly elected committee members and the persons, who were involved in the election process,” he added.

The minister said a vast revolution has taken place during the last 13 years. With the raise of journalists, the
numbers of problems have also increased, he added.

He said, “I’m trying my best to resolve the problems. There is no country in the sub-continent which provided
assistance to journalists during COVID-19 epidemic except our country.”

“The government has implemented the clean feed (ad free) and thus, the country’s television channels are
getting benefits,” he added.

The minister hoped that the authorities concerned of mass media will reinstate the journalists who were
terminated during the COVID19 pandemic.

Dr.Hasan also informed that the Mass Media Employee Act is now at final stage and the government is working on broadcasting act.
