Jamie Siddons appointed new batting coach of Bangladesh cricket team

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon has confirmed that Jamie Siddons will be the new batting coach for the Tigers. It was revealed a day after Ashwell Prince resigned from the post, citing “family reasons”.

The 57-year-old Australian arrived in Dhaka last week, however, he was unaware of a role as the BCB did not finalize the position.

Papon told to media, “Jamie Siddons will be the national team’s batting coach. We have heard from senior cricketers and board directors that he is a good coach, which is why we brought him here,”

Siddons was first contacted by the board in May last year when Bangladesh was looking to find a replacement for Neil McKenzie with a permanent batting coach. The BCB shortlisted Siddons and Price, and the latter was hired for the job in July before the Zimbabwe series.

Nazmul Hassan believes that Prince’s decision to resign was also related to the hiring of Siddons. “Maybe after Siddons’ arrival, Prince thought we were thinking differently,” he said. “But he could have stayed so that we could get him to work in a different capacity.”

BCB is also looking for an experienced pace-bowling coach, meanwhile, BCB’s fast-bowling consultant for high-performance unit Champaka Ramanayake is likely to work with the senior side in an interim role.

“We are looking for a pace-bowling coach who has experience working with international teams. Till then, Champaka (Ramanayake) can work with them,”

Papon also said that Ottis Gibson’s sudden departure has cost them, “More than Prince, the bigger loss is Gibson’s departure. All the fast bowlers said that they were learning a lot from him,” he added.
