BNP rally: Thousands gather in Rangpur to join anti-govt rally

Leaders and activists of the BNP are huddling near the location of the party’s major rally in Rangpur.

The BNP and its affiliates have been traveling to the city from the eight districts of the Rangpur division since Friday night in preparation for the rally, which is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah.

Because of the ongoing transport strike, the majority of the party members coming to the venue on foot due to the ongoing transport strike.

Prof. Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain, vice chairman of the BNP, has stated that government party members and the police are causing mischief to prevent the BNP’s mass meeting in the Rangpur division.

In a news conference held on Friday afternoon at the Rangpur Collector’s Eidgaon Ground, he said that the police and intelligence services are threatening those who joined the rally. Those who have stayed in various schools including hotels are being threatened also.

BNP has called mass gatherings in ten divisional cities across the country to protest against the rise in prices of essential commodities including fuel oil, rice, the killing of activists, attacks and lawsuits and the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia. Previously rallies were held in Chittagong, Mymensingh and Khulna. Today is the divisional assembly in Rangpur.
