No first or second dose of Covid vaccine after November

The government plans to stop administering first and second doses of the coronavirus vaccine after November. After this timeframe, eligible people will receive the third or booster shot. Besides, the children aged 5-11 will also get the first two doses as reports Prothom Alo citing health officials.

Officials of the health department said they have a stock of about 1.5 crore vaccines at this moment. All the vaccines Bangladesh received so far will expire in November.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) started the immunization campaign in February 2021. People are getting shot every day except for the government holidays.  Nevertheless, some 33 lakh people above 12 years are yet to receive the first dose. Besides, 94 lakh people who received the maiden shot have yet to take the second dose.

The DGHS daily data shows, that on 24 July some 6 thousand 726 people received the first dose while a total of 27 thousand 296 people received the second dose.

“Those who are yet to take the first dose, have to receive it asap. Otherwise, they won’t get time before November to receive the second dose,” member secretary of the DGHS vaccination committee Shamsul Haque.
