Mustafa Kamal made chair of Commonwealth finance ministers meeting 2022

Bangladesh Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has been elected as the Chair of the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting (CFMM) 2022.

The decision was taken at a virtual meeting of Commonwealth finance ministers on Tuesday on the sidelines of World Bank-IMF Annual Meeting-2021.

The meeting was attended by 54 finance ministers of commonwealth countries and high-level delegates of 54 countries.

He has been given such prestigious honour following a formal proposal mooted by Malaysia and supported by Brunei in this CFMM.

After being elected as the new chairperson of CFMM for 2022, the finance minister thanked the authorities concerned on beheld of the people of Bangladesh, said a Finance Ministry press release today.

The release said that the finance minister apprised the meeting that Bangladesh has been attaining an unprecedented growth of 7.4 percent on average for the last one decade.

He mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received the SDG progress award last month during her participation at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Presided over by Prime Minister of Antigua Gaston Browne, Commonwealth Secretariat Secretary General Patricia Scotland spoke on the occasion.

The speakers at the meeting highlighted providing loan for sustainable and economic recovery, providing loan for tackling climate change impacts, Commonwealth climate finance access hub and other issues.

This year’s CFMM was presided over by Prime Minister of Antigua Gaston Browne.
