Cricketer Mosharraf Rubel in ICU

Former national team cricketer Mosharraf Hossain Rubel is in the ICU of United Hospital after falling seriously ill. He was taken to the ICU on Wednesday night on the advice of doctors.

The left arm spinner of the Bangladesh cricket team  has been suffering from a brain tumour for a long time. Mosharraf has been receiving chemotherapy regularly but his health has suddenly deteriorated.

The matter has been confirmed  by Farhana Chaity, Mosharraf’s wife.

“His health has deteriorated. He has been admitted to the ICU. Right now I don’t have the strength or courage to talk. Please pray for him,” said Chaity.

Mosharraf’s wife also mentioned that his condition is not critical but his medical state isn’t stable either.

In all, he has taken 24 chemotherapy treatments. He received his last chemotherapy on October 11 at United Hospital. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital. From there he was taken to the ICU today.

The former cricketer has been suffering from brain tumour for three years. He received treatment in Singapore after the diagnosis. A lot of money was spent quickly and at one stage he stated that he would sell his flat.

Later the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and former cricketers came forward and Mosharraf has been receiving chemotherapy regularly. His activities on social media suggested that he had been getting better before he was admitted to the ICU as his health worsened.

Mosharraf Hossain Rubel made his debut in the national team in 2008. He took 1 wicket in three ODIs against South Africa on home soil. He was dropped from the team very quickly. The team then took him on a tour of Sri Lanka in 2013. Not getting a chance to play any match, he was dropped again.

Chandika Hathurusinghe took him to the team in the 2016 Afghanistan series. After eight years, he took 3 wickets in the national team jersey. He also played a big role in winning the team. But Rubel was dropped from the national team again as he did not get a wicket in the next match. As a result, his career stopped there.

Mosharraf has played five ODIs for Bangladesh. He was one of the most prolific performers in domestic cricket with 572 wickets to his name.
