Indian High Commission launches Subarna Jayanti Scholarship website

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has officially launched the Subarna Jayanti Scholarship website. This information was given in a notification sent from the Indian High Commission on Thursday (February 24).

According to the High Commission, at the invitation of Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami, in the presence of eminent ICCR scholars and alumni of ITEC, the Subarna Jayanti Scholarship website has been launched.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a concerted effort to share opportunities for education and professionalism in India with Bangladeshis as an initiative to celebrate the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence. In view of this, during his visit to Bangladesh on March 26-27, 2021, one thousand Subarna Jayanti Scholarships were announced for the students and officials of Bangladesh.

The aim of these scholarships is to attract the best and brightest talents and to provide important opportunities for enhancing coordination between India and Bangladesh under India’s new education policy. To fulfill this goal, a web portal for scholarships has been opened to the public. The SJS website will guide applicants on both ICCR and ITEC sites.

In the 2021-22 academic year, Bangladeshi students received 267 ICCR Scholarships at various undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels in various fields of engineering, science, arts, law and culture in various leading government institutions like IIT, NIT, Nalsar, Rabindra Bharati University etc. As no direct course was held due to the pandemic, 285 Bangladeshi professionals have registered for the e-ITEC course in FY 2021-22.

According to the Indian High Commission, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India, introduced the Council of Indian Relations (ICCR) Scholarship in 1950 to strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries. The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program was launched in 1964 with the aim of enhancing the exchange of knowledge and skills for professionals in friendly countries.
