Mostafiz’s Rajasthan with an incredible victory

Tyagi’s heroics helped Rajasthan Royals snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in an incredible finish as they had looked down and out with Punjab needing 10 runs off 15 balls.

With 8 wickets in hand, 4 runs are needed in the last over. The Punjab Kings could not match that equation in Dubai. Punjab lost 2 wickets in the last over by pacer Karthik Tyagi and managed to score only 1 run. In the dramatic match, Mostafizur Rahman’s Rajasthan Royals won by 2 runs.

Kartik Tyagi took 2-1 off the final over to inspire Rajasthan Royals to a stunning victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL.

The Kings looked certainties to chase down their opponents’ 185 all out with just 10 needed off the final 15 deliveries and four required from the final over – with eight wickets in hand.

But Tyagi conceded just one from his first two balls and then had Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda caught at the wicket either side of a dot, before securing the win with another dot courtesy of a yorker to Fabian Allen.

It was an incredible climax to a match which appeared to be meandering pleasantly to a routine Kings success as openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal brought up personal landmarks on the way to a 120 stand.

Rahul (49) reached 3,000 IPL runs and Agarwal (67) 2,000 – though Rahul did receive three generous reprieves, the worst of them given by a juggling Riyan Parag.

Even when both departed in short order, Pooran and Aiden Markram continued serenely until grinding to a halt in the final two overs, Mustafizur Rahman applying the brakes with a penultimate over which went for just four before Tyagi’s match-winning intervention.

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mostafiz did not get any wicket with 30 runs in 4 overs. The Rajasthan fielders, however, dropped two catches to Mostafiz.

If Mostafiz’s team had not lost 6 wickets for just 21 runs in the last 4 overs, the score could have been bigger. Punjab left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh took 5 wickets for 32 runs.

Evin Lewis and Yashambi Jaiswal gave Rajasthan a great start with 54 runs in the opening over. Lewis took 57 runs in the first 6 overs. Though captain Sanju Samson returned for 4 runs, Liam Livingstone’s third wicket partnership with Jaiswal rose to 48 off 28 balls. Jaiswal returned with 49 off 36 balls. Mahipal Lomro then made 43 off 17 balls.

After 20 runs off 15 balls with Livingstone, Ryan Parag has added 30 runs off 13 balls. Rajasthan lost the toss after Lomro was dismissed by Arshdeep in the first ball of the 18th over.
