The Prime Minister attended the opening day of the 76th session of the United Nations

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (September 21st) morning joined the high-level general debate on the first day of the 76th General Assembly session (UNGA). The General Assembly session will be held from September 21 to September 27.

Sheikh Hasina will address on September 24. She will deliver her speech in Bangla like in previous years, following the footsteps of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who delivered his historic speech at the UN in Bangla in 1974.

The 76th session of the UNGA began on 14 September. On that day, Abdullah Shahid of Maldives was sworn in as the President of the 76th Session of the General Assembly and inaugurated the session.

Due to the global epidemic, the size of the delegations will be limited if the General Assembly convenes, and UN member states are encouraged to make previously stated statements instead of visiting headquarters.

More than 100 heads of state and government are expected to attend in person. The General Assembly of the United Nations is the main policy-making body of the United Nations.
