Tribute to Bangabandhu
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina moved a proposal in the Jatiya Sangsad paying tribute to the greatest Bangali of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his birth centenary.
“Deep respect should be paid to the greatest Bangali of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through a special discussion in the Jatiya Sangsad over his well-decorated political and working life as well as philosophy marking ‘Mujib Borsha’ (Mujib Year),” she said.
The Leader of the House moved the proposal under Article 147 of the Rules of Procedures in the special sitting of the parliament.
The dreamer and architect of independent Bangladesh and unanimous great leader of Bangali Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on March 17, 1920, she said.
“He fought throughout his entire life for establishing the rights of Bangali nation as well as attaining political and economical emancipation. [He] embraced jail-oppression and torture, but never compromised with injustice,” continued Sheikh Hasina.
She said: “Our independence has been achieved under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through a bloody war in 1971 following a long struggle and movement of 24 years –language movement from 1947-48 to 1952, formation of Juktafront (United front) in 1954, six-point movement in 1966, Agartala conspiracy case in 1968, mass uprising in 1969 and election in 1970.”
“Bangabandhu in his historic March 7 speech voiced fearlessly that ‘Ebarer Sangram Amader Muktir Sangram, Ebarer Sangram Swadhinatar Sangram’ (The struggle this time is for emancipation, the struggle this time is for independence).’ Unarmed people of Bangla inspired by the speech of Bangabandhu turned every house into a fortress against the Pakistani force,” said the Premier.
She said: “Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujib declared independence in the first hour of March 26, 1971. Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country in the world map through a 9-month long bloody war in return of 30 lakh martyrs and sacrifice of 2 lakh mothers and sisters.”
“Bangabandhu has given us an independent state, red-green flag and a constitution. Bangabandhu had created a platform for us to high up our head proudly with the identity of Bangali,” said Sheikh Hasina.
“He had got only three years and six months to build a war-torn country after the independence. In that time, he had adopted a comprehensive plan for the development of Bangladesh and started implementation of the work,” she added.
