Sohan named new Bangladesh T20I captain

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday announced the squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Zimbabwe.

Wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan has been named the captain for the T20 series as the regular captain Mahmudullah Riyad and other senior players Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have been rested for T20Is.

“We would like to give the youngsters a go in this Zimbabwe series. We already relayed our message to Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur,” said cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus on Friday following a meeting of the team management.

Regarding the captaincy in the future T20I series, as well as the next Asia Cup and T20I World Cup later this year, Jalal Yunus declined to comment, saying not to speculate anything at this moment.

Pacer Hasan Mahmud returned to both the formats after recovering from injury while uncapped Parvez Hossain Emon has been included in the T20I squad for the tour.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs in their upcoming white-ball tour of Zimbabwe from July 30 to August 10.
