Bangladesh to fund UN peacekeeping

Bangladesh has pledged fund to the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions as part of Dhaka’s strong political commitment to peace building process across the world.

“The financial contribution of Bangladesh to the peace-building fund, despite COVID-19 related austerity measures, signals our strong political commitment to global peace,” said Bangladesh Permanent Representative (PR) to the UN Ambassador Rabab Fatima.

She said this contribution is made in addition to Bangladesh’s invaluable support to the peacekeeping operations and peace-building architecture of UN.

The Bangladesh PR was speaking at the High Level Replenishment Conference for the Peacebuilding Fund held virtually on Tuesday.

She also reiterated the concern of the UN Secretary General at the perennial funding gap in peace-building and called for urgent attention of international community to the issue of such financing.

The Conference was convened by Secretary General Antonio Guterres along with governments of Canada, Germany, Sierra Leone and Sudan, to generate financial contributions to the UN’s Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
