ICSD for social protection amid pandemic

International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) has called upon the governments to increase social protection as the corona pandemic increase poverty.

The twenty second session of the global platform wrapped up with the Johannesburg Announcement in participations of scholars across the world, said a news release.

Centre for Social Development in Africa (CSDA) at University of Johannesburg organised the four-day conference to share knowledge on latest developments in social innovations and researchers in participation of scholars.

Over 300 participants from 27 countries presented 240 papers and deliberated critical issues relating to poverty, inequality, climate change and ecology, digital technology, a range vulnerable groups and human capability building,

ICSD President Manohar Pawar said the corona pandemic has curbed the advancement of inequality reduction as the social disorders have significantly increased more in reverse.

Bangladeshi scholar and ICSD vice president Dr Mostafizur Rahman  said  the pandemic has exposed social determinates of health and hidden inequalities, particularly, in relation to health infrastructure and access to health services and facilities.

ICSD President Professor Manohar Pawar conferred Social Development leadership award on Prof Leila Patel, Prof Lauren Graham and Prof Antoinette Lombard for their outstanding academic and professional accomplishments.

ICSD vice president Komal Sing Rambaree announced that the twenty third biennial conference in 2023 will be held in Sweden in collaboration with the Municipality and University of Gavle.
