Debate in Parliament over Zia’s grave

The political debate over the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman took place in the National Assembly this time. The state minister for culture debated the issue with BNP members during a discussion in the parliament on Thursday.

The ruling party MPs demanded to prove it in their counter-statements when the BNP MPs accused the party of distorting the history.

Speaking on the issue of public opinion polls on the National Archives Ordinance 1973 repeal bill on Thursday (September 16th) morning, BNP MP Harunur Rashid said the government wanted to launch a campaign saying Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter. But it is also written in the national archives that he is a freedom fighter. Such statements should be made in unison.

He said the National Assembly was also present at the time of Ziaur Rahman’s death in 1989. Awami League MPs were also present. There are proceedings of the discussion in the parliament. An autopsy is required when someone dies. Ziaur Rahman also had a postmortem. If General Ershad was alive now, he would hide his face in shame. It is better not to tell lies.

Bogra MP Mosharraf Hossain said, “How did you know that there is no body in Ziaur Rahman’s grave in the capital’s Chandrima Udyan?” You are not in power for the first time, now why are you saying all this? We respect Bangabandhu, we also respect Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. We also respect the current Prime Minister, the former Prime Minister. But now why talk so much?
In response, State Minister for Culture SA Khalid said, “We also want the practice of distorted history to stop.” Because then the story of Ziaur Rahman’s broken suitcase will stop. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia should ask herself, who is giving flowers to her husband, who is paying respect. History has been distorted by the BNP. Because there is no copy of Bangla Bani in the National Archives since the death of Bangabandhu.

Later, another member of parliament, Rumin Farhana, who took part in the discussion of amending the bill, said that when history is written by politicians and becomes part of the law, it becomes difficult. In our opinion, the government is now following the policy of Amat Kar. We only talk about 2/3 people, but you can’t believe it. Ziaur Rahman was the architect of democracy, the architect of modern economy. They will speak for them in Parliament, we will speak for us. Because history is always written in the hand of the victor, perhaps, it takes time to know the truth.

As long as history is seen through party glasses, there will be no gain. He said that after 40 years, the controversy over the grave of Ziaur Rahman should turn its eyes away from all failures, vote theft and lack of democracy in the government.

In response, the state minister for culture hinted at Rumin Farhana at the beginning of his speech, saying that his parents may have forgotten to put honey in someone’s mouth after birth. I’m sure of at least one speaker.

He said that the problem of those who want to compose history by standing on untruths and lies. They say it takes centuries to write history. Then after 40 years, if there is a debate, where is the problem?

He proposed to the BNP, formed a science-based committee, you do it, prove that Zia’s body is there. Where is the problem? Why does the BNP want to avoid it?

At the time, Jatiya Party MP Shamim Haider Patwari said no one learns from history. History teaches. BNP distorts history. The BNP claims that Ziaur Rahman, the proclaimer of independence, never claimed to be alive. The BNP must first stop distorting history. Then the Awami League must stop distorting history.
