No more elections under the present government: BNP leaders
Acting party chairman Tarique Rahman exchanged views with BNP executive committee members and district presidents of Khulna, Rajshahi and Barisal divisions on Thursday, the last day of the second round of meetings to decide the course of action for the upcoming elections and the movement. The meeting started at 4 pm at the BNP chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan and lasted for seven hours.
At the meeting, the leaders said that going to the national elections under this government in the future means BNP’s political suicide. So there is no more election under the present government. We have to make a movement all over the country to fulfill the demand of a neutral government. However, Dhaka should be the main center of the movement.
The leaders said that there would be no benefit in forming an alliance with the One Man Show parties, the movement should be formed under the leadership of BNP. The grassroots leaders and workers of the party are ready, the capital Dhaka should be prepared and the BNP should call for a movement alone.
According to meeting sources, everyone has spoken of a movement to free Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and demand a neutral government during the elections. The leaders said that if they go to the polls under the ruling Awami League government, they will have to suffer the same fate as on December 30, 2018.
The anti-government political parties that are in favor of the demand for a neutral government during the elections should be brought on the same platform. At the same time, the international community must continue to support the demand for a neutral government during the elections. Therefore, the diplomatic wing of the party needs to be strengthened.
On the main stage there were, the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, member of the standing committee Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku,Rajshahi district BNP convener Abu Saeed Chan, Executive committee member and Khulna district BNP president Shafiqul Islam Mona, Advocate Kamrul Islam Sajal.
