Today is World Postal Day

Today is October 9, World Postal Day. Like other countries of the world, the Department of Posts will observe the day in Bangladesh through various programs. The theme of the day is ‘Innovate to Recover’.

The Universal Postal Union was formed on 9 October 1874 at an international conference held in Bern, Switzerland with the participation of representatives from 22 countries. October 9, 1969 was declared World Postal Day by a resolution passed by the organization at the United Nations.

Bangladesh became a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 1973 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Since then, World Postal Day has been celebrated in the country every year.

On the occasion of World Postal Day, a discussion meeting will be held on the third floor of Gulistan Post Office at 3 pm on Saturday on the occasion of World Postal Day.

On this occasion, a reception will be given to a girl from Sylhet who won first place in the international handwriting competition.

It is known that about 40,000 workers are engaged in postal service in 10,000 post offices of the country. Following the transformation of 8,500 post offices in the country, the grassroots are getting 200 digital services from the government.
