North South University is one of the oldest private universities in Bangladesh.

Dr Sufi Sagar Shams, adviser of the Foundation, at a press briefing on Saturday at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, said the quality of education of the university has deteriorated over the years due to the irregularities.

With that, the Law and Human Rights Protection Foundation thinks that the university is practically encouraging militancy.

He also pointed out some irregularities of the top management of the University.

In a written statement, he said the lives of 25,000 students of the university have been taken hostage by the syndicate of the board of trustees of the university. In the midst of so many irregularities, the quality of education of the institution is also gradually declining.

Giving examples, he said, the university is still patronising militancy. Nafis Imtiaz, who was convicted in the murder of blogger Rajeeb, was readmitted to the university after 10 years.

The press conference demanded that North South University’s top people buying low-priced land at high prices, commission in exchange for a contract with a developer company, illegally buy luxury cars for 9 members of the board of trustees illegally from student tuition fees, accused of embezzling Tk 100,000 for seating allowance , Receiving same allowances even after do online meetings, by breaking the rules, FDR of Tk. 408 crore from the university fund in their own account, Complaints have been lodged in various government departments about various irregularities and militancy, including the admission of several students, disobeying the directives of the Grants Commission.

“In particular, the entire university administration is being held hostage by two trustees and founding members of the university, Azim Uddin Ahmed and the MA Qasim Syndicate.”

In addition to the two, Sufi Sagar Sams claimed that founding members of the university Benazir Ahmed, Rehna Rahman, Mohammad Shahjahan and Aziz Al Qaiser Tito  were also involved in the syndicate.

He claimed that Azim-Kashem syndicate violated the Private University Act-2010 by forming 25 committees against eight committees and collecting additional seating allowance. Through these committees, they have kept all the powers of the university administration in their hands. Even Azim or Kashem became a member of all the legal and illegal committees of the university outside the rules.

At the press conference  Dr. Sagar Sams demanded exemplary punishment for the Azim-Qasim syndicate for such rampant corruption in an institution like North South University and turning the university into a militant factory in the interest of the state, and  seeking the intervention of the Prime Minister to save the organization and the country from militancy and corruption.
