Marking the day, embassy officials led by Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Imran planted 100 saplings on the embassy premises, said a press release.

High Commissioner Muhammad Imran, along with the members of the mission, placed a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu and Sheikh Russel in the chancery building.

Deputy High Commissioner Md. Nural Islam read out the message from President Md Abdul Hamid while the message from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was read out by Assistant Defence Adviser Lt Col Md. Kamrul Hasan.

High Commissioner Muhammad Imran said that on August 15 in 1975, the assassins also killed the infant Russel with their brutal bullets, which is a chapter in history.

If Sheikh Russel was alive, he would have played a role in building the Bangladesh of Bangabandhu’s dream, he said, adding that “If he had survived, today’s new generation would have had the opportunity to learn the politics of Bangabandhu’s ideology from him.”
