Journalists can show dreams to helpless people: Hasan Mahmud
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said journalists can show dreams to the people, who are afraid of perceiving dreams in society.
“There are many people in the society, who could not tell their miseries to anyone and none can think about their pain. A journalist can write their sorrow through reporting at newspapers, televisions and even in online newspapers. Journalists can give languages to them,” he said.
The minister stated these while addressing the ActionAid Young Journalist Media Award 2021 at an auditorium of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) here with the daily Ajker Patrika editor Dr Golam Rahman in the chair.
News 24 Channel senior news editor Borhanul Haque Samrat and ActionAid Bangladesh manager Nazmul Ahsan, among others, addressed the function.
Extending thanks to the ActionAid to introduce the award for young journalists, Hasan said the award will encourage the young journalists to enhance themselves professionally. A journalist can open the third eye of society.
The minister urged all media concerned to reintroduce a page for children so that they can write.
He also urged the journalists to remain alert while writing a report as wrong or false news can be harmful to any person.
This year, three journalists received the ‘ActionAid Young Journalist Media Award 2021’ and the other four journalists got fellowships.
Md. Iqbal Hossain, Reporter of Bangladesh Television (BTV) for ‘Journalism for promoting youth leadership for social transformation’ Category; Miftahul Zannat, Deputy Managing Editor of The Dhaka Apologue for ‘Journalism for promoting youth responsive accountable public services’ Category; Md. Sharful Alam, Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla for ‘Journalism for promoting decent work and economic opportunities for young people’ Category were awarded for their excellent reports.
On the other hand, Babu Kamruzzaman, Staff Correspondent of News 24, Nilima Jahan, Reporter of the Daily Star, M Yousuf Ali, Jahangirnagar University Correspondent of the daily Jugantor, Satej Chakma, Chief Reporter of IPNEWS BD got fellowships respectively.
