President arrives in Kishoreganj on a weeklong visit

President M Abdul Hamid arrived here Friday  on a seven-day visit to oversee some the ongoing development projects in the district and exchange views with local representatives.

The head of the state was flown at his ancestral home of Mithamain by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter this afternoon. President’s wife Rashida Khanam and senior officials of the Bangabhaban accompanied him. It is the first visit to his hometown since the pandemic COVID-19 outbreaks about two years back.

He was received by political leaders, local MP and senior officials of the district administration. The President was given a gourd of honour at Zilla Parishad’s new Dak Bangalow here.

On the first day of his week-long programme in different upazilas of Kishoreganj district, Abdul Hamid visited an under-construction bridge on ‘Gorautra River’.

The 365-meter bridge, connecting the haors with Upazila Sadar, is being built involving Taka 43 crore, President’s press secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

The President is expected to return Dhaka on November 18, he added.
