95 percent textbooks to reach schools by Dec 31: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said that 95 percent of textbooks at free of cost for primary and secondary levels will reach schools across the country within December 31.

“The remaining books would reach the schools by January 7 next. The students across the country, however, will get the books in time,” she said.

The education minister made remarks after visiting the printing press at Matuail here, said a press release.

Dipu Moni said printing of all the books has been completed as a total of 200 presses, including 158 for secondary and 42 for primary, are working in this regard.

Bookbinding of 17 crore textbooks out of 34.70 crore has already been completed while binding of the remaining books are expected to be completed within the next three or four days, she added.

The education minister warned that actions will be taken if any printing institution supplies substandard books.

Noting that like the last year, the book festival would not be held this year considering the Covid-19 situation, she said the books will be distributed in phases among the students of different classes.

Speaking about the new variant of the Covid-19 Omicron, Dipu Moni said, “Time has not come yet to say the last word on Omicron. We are witnessing that the variant is spreading in Europe and America rapidly”.

The real situation of the Omicron in Bangladesh could be understood in March next, she said, adding if the situation doesn’t worsen by this time, the educational institutions would be instructed to continue regular
activities in full swing.
