UGC’s Annual Report-2020 submitted to President

A delegation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) led by Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah submitted its ‘Annual Report-2020’ to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this evening.
After the meeting, President’s Press Secretary Md. Joynal Abedin told newsmen that the UGC chairman briefed the President on various aspects of the report and the overall activities of the UGC.
He informed to the President that the UGC budget has been doubled to inspire different research activities.
“This year, admission tests have been completed in 30 public universities in cluster system,” he added.
The President said there is no alternative to the doing research to continue this trend of development in the country.
“It is very important to improve the quality of higher education so that the country can compete with the developed world,” he added.
President Hamid called upon the universities to take effective steps to formulate up-to-date curriculum and improve the quality of education.
He directed the UGC to act as a watchdog to ensure transparency and accountability in the activities of higher educational institutions.
The head of the state also called for formulating a policy on the recruitment of teachers in universities.
President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin and Secretary (Attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present.
