SUST Vice Chancellor expresses sorrow over police brutality against students

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed has termed the incident of police attack on protesting students as ‘undesirable’. The vice-chancellor expressed his regret in a press release sent to the media on Saturday (February 12).

In a press release, the Vice-Chancellor said, “I express my sincere sympathy and sympathy to all those who were injured in the unfortunate incident that took place at our beloved university, including teachers, students and staff. As the supreme guardian of the university, I sincerely apologize for the unfortunate incident. I would like to express my gratitude to the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university who are working hard to overcome the stalemate caused by the continuation of that incident.”

SUST Vice Chancellor requested all the members of the university family to play their role from their respective positions to bring back the beautiful and normal activities of the university.

He further said, “I firmly believe that with the joint efforts of all, it will be possible to turn our beloved institution into a world-class university.”

Earlier on Friday (February 11), after discussions with other teachers at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni advised the Vice-Chancellor to apologize for the incident. After about 26 days of the meeting, Vice Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed came out of his residence. On the same day, a delegation of agitating students held a meeting with the Education Minister.

After a meeting with the education minister, the students announced to suspend the ongoing movement against the vice-chancellor for one day. They said they would sit down with all the students on Saturday afternoon to decide what to do after the meeting.

The incident started with Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall of SUST. All the residential halls of the university were opened on October 25 last year. After about 19 months, the residential students started returning to the hall from that day. When they return, they see various reforms. Besides, the resident students of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall faced some new rules and problems.
