Two-day weekend for Primary, secondary schools from 2023

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said the teachers and students of primary and secondary schools across the country will enjoy a two-day weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday from 2023.

“There is a two-day weekend at university level. When we met the Prime Minister over a national curriculum, we informed her to extend the weekly holiday to two-days for secondary, higher secondary and higher education,” she said.

The minister made the statement at a textbook distribution programme for class six for piloting under the new curriculum at the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).

Noting that a proposal was placed for keeping the one-day holiday unchanged for primary education, Dipu Moni said, the Prime Minister, however, has instructed for extending the holidays for the primary education as well.

“I hope all educational institutions across the country will enjoy the two-day holiday from 2023,” she added.

Speaking about the piloting activities of the new curriculum, the minister said, “Under the new curriculum, we hope the students will be able to acquire skills, proper attitude and values along with obtaining knowledge”.

NCTB Chairman Professor Md Farhadul Islam was present at the function, among others.

According to the NCTB officials, the piloting programme of the new national curriculum will begin at 62 educational institutions from February 22 while the schools under the programme will enjoy the two-day holiday from that day.
