Bangladeshis Used as ‘Human Shield’ in Ukraine!

Five Bangladeshis have been detained in a camp in the Ukrainian border town of Juravis. There are 120 more people including women and children from different countries. Ukraine’s military has barred them from using them as human shields.

They can’t get out of this camp. “This detention center used to have all kinds of facilities. But these have been gone since the war began. Crisis is going on in all matters including food, water, electricity,” Riyadh Malik, one of the detainees, told the media on Thursday (March 3rd).

“We are being tortured, our phones have been taken away. I hid this phone. They confiscated our phones so that we could not talk to any media,” he said.

“They are holding us here, holding us hostage. They are using us as human shields. Not being allowed to eat properly,” said Riyadh Malik.

The camp is run by the European Union. This Bangladeshi claims that the condition of everyone here is bad.

“Many members of the Ukrainian military have gathered around our camp, about 5,000. If Russia drops bombs or missiles, we will all die. Then Ukraine will say that Russia is killing civilians. We have now become human shields,” he said.

They can hear the sound of bombs and gunfire from the camp. Although no injuries have been reported so far, they are counting the days for certain death.
