Competition Commission to take legal action against artificial crisis of edible oil

Bangladesh Competition Commission has strengthened its monitoring activities to check any artificial crisis of
edible oil and the commission will take legal action if anyone creates the crisis.

“There are only a few edible oil importers in the country. So, we are collecting information on whether anyone from importers to producers, wholesalers and retailers are doing anti-competitive activities. Strict legal action will be taken if there is evidence of anti-competitive activities against anyone,” said Chairperson of Bangladesh Competition Commission Md Mofizul Islam. Report BSS

Mofizul Islam informed that the commission has already formed an investigative team for taking information.

They are collecting information on how much edible oil has been imported in the last three months, where it was marketed and at what price, he added.

He mentioned that the commission will take legal action if it is found that someone has caused problems in the supply chain.

Besides, he said, if anyone complains against those involved in anti-competitive activities on their own initiative, it will be taken into account.

Mofizul Islam urged the countrymen to co-operate with the commission if any anti-competitive activities are seen in the market, he added.
