Constable who harassed teacher for wearing ‘Teep’ identified

The Policeman who allegedly harassed a female teacher for wearing a ‘Teep’ on Saturday, has been identified today.

DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Biplab Kumar Sarkar confirmed the matter to BSS saying, “The accused has been identified as Nazmul Tarique, a constable at the Protection Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
During primary interrogation, he confessed that an incident happened with the lady.”

“The incident is being investigated properly. Stern actions will be taken against the accused if he found guilty,” the DMP official added.

Dr Lata Samaddar, a teacher of Media and Theatre Studies Department of Tejgaon College, lodged a General Diary (GD) with Tejgaon Thana yesterday alleging that an unidentified constable harassed her near Sezan Shopping Complex area in Tejgaon around 8.30am on Saturday for wearing a ‘teep’ on her forehead.

On her complaint, she stated that as she tried to protest, the constable ran his motorbike over her feet and escaped the spot.

Samaddar also mentioned the accused’s bike number- ‘Jashore 13-3970’ in the complaint.
