DMP asks revealers to complete Baishakh programs by midday

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam today asked Bengali New Year revealers to complete the Baishakh celebrations by midday.

“Keeping in mind the holy month of Ramadan and traffic jams, all activities for this Bengali New Year and the first Baishakh celebrations will be completed by two o’clock and none will be allowed to enter Ramna Park after one o’clock,” he said.

Shafiqul made the remarks after inspecting the security arrangements for the Bengali New Year Baishakh celebrations at Ramna Batamul.

He said necessary security arrangements have been taken centering the New Year reception and the Baishakh celebrations.

“Close circuit television cameras (CCTVs) will be installed at Ramna, Suhrawardy Uddyan, TSC, Mongal Shovajatra and its surrounding areas,” the DMP chief said.

He said DMP’s dog squad and bomb disposal units have been sweeping Ramna Batamul and its surrounding areas, which will be continued till the beginning of the programme.

To avoid untoward situation, the DMP will set up watch towers to monitor everything of the Baishakh celebrations. DMP and swat will surveillance everything, Shafiqul added.

“There will be road diversions and police check posts in all the roads centering Ramna,” he said. The commissioner requested city dwellers to cooperate police on duty at the check posts to ensure security.

Adequate numbers of white-clothe police will be deployed to prevent eve-teasing, he said.

Mentioning that none will be able to enter the Mongal Shovajatra from outside, he said, “If anyone wants to enter, he will have to face strict police obstruction. And none will be able to wear mask in the procession.”

Earlier, the commissioner inspected the security situation at Ramna’s Batmul and surrounding areas and gave necessary instructions to concerned.

DMP Additional Commissioners Mir Rezaul Alam; Krishnapad Roy, AKM Hafiz Akter, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime chief Md Asaduzzaman, senior officials were present.
