5 Dhaka College students remanded over Nahid murder

A Dhaka court has placed five students of Dhaka College on a two-day remand each in a case over the murder of Nahid Hasan.

They are– Abdul Kaiyum, Polash Mia, Mahmood Irfan, Foysal Islam, and Junaid Muktadir.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akter passed the order after Md Tariqul Alam Jewel, Inspector of Detective Branch of Police, produced the accused before her court with  a 7-day remand plea on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, DB members arrested them from different parts of the capital in connection with the murder of deliveryman Nahid.

DMP Media Centre, AKM Hafiz Akhter, DMP’s additional commissioner (Detective Branch), said  the five arrestee carrying locally made weapons, took part in the attack from the front.

“Of the arrestee, Kaiyum was the first to strike Nahid. He was dressed in a white and blue striped T-shirt,” he added.

However, the police are still on the lookout for the youth seen in the viral photo hacking Nahid.

Nahid Mia was beaten up and hacked during clashes between Dhaka College students and shopkeepers in New Market area on April 19.

Later, he died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital that night.
