10 killed in Kushtia, Ranngpur, Panchagarh road crashes
Ten people– three of them teenaggers– were killed in separate road mishaps in then districts of Kushtia, Rangpur and Panchagarh on Wednesday.
In Kushtia, two brothers were killed and five others injured in a collision between a three-wheeler and a pick-up van on the Kushtia-Rajbari road in Shimulia union of Kushtia.
The deceased were identified as Madrasa student Samirul, 10, and Firoz Mondol, 45, sons of Rezaul Islam of the district.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when the pick-up van crashed on the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction on Kushtia-Rajbari road in Shimulia around 2pm, leaving the siblings dead on spot and five other passengers of the three-wheeler injured.
The injured were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Khoksa Police Station Syed Ashiqur Rahman said the killer vehicle was seized However, the driver of the pick-up van fled the scene soon after the accident.
In Rangpur, police sources said five passengers of a battery-run three-wheeler were killed and three others injured when the three-wheeler collided head-on with a microbus at Sholeyasha Bazar point on the Rangpur-Saidpur highway under Gangachara upazila.
“Three passengers were killed on the spot and five injured passengers were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH), where two others succumbed to their injuries,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara Model police station Md. Dulal Hossain said.
Three of the deceased were identified as Seyadul Islam Chopra, 37, and Nazma Begum, 35, of Dohazari Chhuthajipur village and Amjad Hossain, 50, of village Hariarkuthi Kharuabadha in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur district.
Identities of the two other deceased, who died at the RpMCH, could not be known immediately.
“The dead bodies were handed over to Taraganj Highway police station,” the OC added.
Meanwhile, three teenage motorcyclists were killed in a road accident in Pukuridanga Balurghat area of Sadar upazila in Panchagarh district in the afternoon.
“The accident occurred when the motorcycle carrying the three teenagers collided head-on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and hit a roadside tree,” said OC of Panchagarh Sadar police station Abdul Latif Miah.
“Local people rescued them in critical condition and took them to Panchagarh Modernized Sadar Hospital, where on duty Dr. Ruksana declared them dead,” the OC said.
The deceased were identified as Natun Islam, 16, son of Paygam Islam, Mahabubar Rahman Shishir, 17, son of Tarek Billal and Abu Bakkar Siddique, 16, son of Abbas Ali hailing from nearby village Ziabari Khalpara of the same union.
The victims were going to visit the historical Maharaja Dighee at Bhitargarh of Amarkhana union in Panchagarh Sadar upazila riding their motorcycle.
Of the deceased, Shishir passed the last SSC examinations from Hafizabad Dwarikamari High School and Abu Bakkar Siddique was studying in class ten in the same school,” the OC added.
The incident has cast a shadow of gloom among the families and in the area.
