Bangladesh New Delhi mission celebrates “Bangla New Year-1429”

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today celebrated “Bangla New Year-1429” with a festive mood upholding the rich cultural heritage and rituals of the Bangalees.

As part of the celebration, “Mangal Shobhajatra” (procession for wellbeing) was brought out on the chancery premises this morning by the mission’s officers, employees, staffs and their family members.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran and Mrs Zakia Hasnat Imran led the “Mangal Shobhajatra” procession, which is considered an expression of the secular identity of the Bangladeshi people.

The processionists wearing masks and colourful dresses and carrying different types of replicas of birds, animals and other motifs paraded different roads on the mission campus and later dispersed at the main gate of the high commission.

Later, a spectacular cultural function symbolizing Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage was organised at Bangabandhu Hall of the high commission. A group of singers displayed their solo and group performances with Boishakhi songs before the audience.

Apart from this, a magic show was performed by renowned magician Raj Kumar at the function that enthralled the audience specially the children.

Earlier, High Commissioner Imran in his welcome address highlighted the significance of organizing such event at all Bangladesh mission abroad to portray the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

The function was followed by a light lunch. Different types of traditional Bangladeshi dishes like Bhat, Dal, Vorta, Vaji, Pitha-puli, semai and payes — were served in the lunch.
