Fakhrul breaks own record of lying over Padma Bridge: Hasan Mahmud

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the BNP secretary general has broken his own record of lying through spreading falsehood over the laying foundation stone of the Padma Bridge.

“I saw on facebook status that Mirza Fakhrul was sure to have something . . . That’s why he told like this way. But I’m sure that he didn’t take anything like many others. He is a gentleman,” he said.

The minister added: “But, not taking anything he (Fakhrul) broke the record of telling lies by saying over the establishing of foundation stone of the Padma Bridge. In fact, they became crazy as the much-awaited Padma Bridge has been made.”

Dr. Hasan told reporters after addressing the closing ceremony and certificate distribution function of a day-long workshop at Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) seminar room in the capital.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) organized the workshop on ‘Development Reporting on Children Issues’ for its district-level correspondents and other journalists.

BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad presided over the meeting while PIB Director General Zafar Wazed and Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Managing Director Subhash Chanda Badal and BSS Managing Editor Anisur Rahman spoke it as special guests.

Showing photos of foundation stone of the Padma Bridge, messages of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and state minister for communication Md Anisul Haque Chowdhury and pictures of souvenir of journalists, Hasan said the Prime Minister had laid the foundation stone of the Padma Bridge on July 4, 2001.

The minister urged BNP not to spread falsehood through admitting their mistake.

He said BNP should seek apology for their opposing the Padma Bridge. There is no shame for admitting mistake, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

In the function, the minister termed the workshop as time befitting and said the children are the future of the nation and spiritual development is needed for their bright future. Infrastructure development is not sustainable, he added.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to build a country with humanity along with building a developed state. For this, merit, affection, values and patriotism are needed among the next generation, he added.

And the journalists could play a pivotal role in creating awareness among the children, their guardians and teachers and the society as well through their information-based and touchy reporting.

Abul Kalam Azad said in-depth positive write-up of a journalist can change the mindset of many people for development of a society.

He urged the journalists to devote themselves to their profession and to be more cautious when producing report on children and women issues.

Later, the minister handed over certificates among the participants.
